The construction of the basic planar collector includes:

Absorber sheet: This sheet is black or dark in color and made of a material that effectively absorbs the solar energy. The absorber sheet collects the thermal energy radiated by the sun's rays.

Thermal Insulation: Flat plate collectors usually have a thermally insulated back panel to minimize heat loss and increase efficiency. Thermal insulation prevents heat from radiating between the back panel and the absorber.
