Aerogel is a special material with an extremely low density solid structure, essentially consisting of 99% air, but due to its solid structure it can be considered a solid substance. Airgel is a nanostructured material, for the creation of which a colloidal dispersion is typically dried, which is how the characteristically porous, "gel-sponge" structure of the material is formed. A characteristic feature of airgel is that it has extremely low thermal conductivity, which means that it is considered an excellent thermal insulation material.

Aerogel is used as an insulating material in many industrial applications and has become popular due to its beneficial properties in many fields. It is also used to insulate flexible pipes, especially in places where thermal insulation is critical, such as pipes for temperature control, oil pipelines, or industrial processes, solar collectors in which minimizing heat loss is essential.
